I do a fair bit of LAMP programming at work and one of the tools I hold absolutely invaluable in this regard is HTML Validator. This handy-dandy little program is a Firefox Extension that is based on HTML Tidy and does w3c html validation. Just right click on the website and pick “view page source” and you are presented with not only your source, but also some great validation info and even a way to automatically generate w3c compatible html right there. This util is really great and I use it all the time. Try it yourself, you might just like it too!

There are a couple online applications I use often and I thought I would share how to make them just a little more productive. I use Google Calendars and I also use Ta-Da Lists. These just help me keep things organized and with a lot of things happening during the day, being organized sure can be a big help and time saver. Anyhow, I decided that it was too much of a pain to keep switching between browser windows to get a peek at what I needed, so it occurred to me why not put them together. Violla, with a little magic iframe goodness in a quickie html file, I get them both in the same spot and, in my opinion, infinitely more handy. Just look how useful that is now!

I have been enjoying my laptops upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 for a couple days now. I really like the added speed that the new Firefox 3 beta seems to have. I initially thought it odd that they included beta software in their LTS release, but that speed….!
The only thing that is really getting under my skin so far is a little bug with Firefox that I have been running into over and over again. When I click on a radio button or checkbox, they just disappear. Dunno whether they end up checked or not until you click somewhere else and then they show back up again. And to top that off, sometimes I have to resubmit pages because what I clicked on that visibly shows it’s checked, doesn’t seem to get submitted that way. Arrrgh!
I did see there are some bug reports out there on this issue but they seem pretty old. I just wanted to know if anyone else has seen this behavior too? Maybe I just need a clean install instead of an upgrade? Maybe I just need to install Opera
I have been doing quite a bit of work lately with my LinuxForChristians website. It has kind of been neglected as of late, well, very much so I guess
I have finally gotten around to getting things started correctly I think, by actually registering a domain, by setting up a better (or at least newer) website, and definitely by getting some commitment and involvement of other wonderful people to help.
It’s really neat to watch a website take off and I hope this one continues to do so. I am excited to see people using it and I am anxious to see where things will go.
It’s no secret that I am a Christian, but still many people do not know that I run the L4C website, so here’s your chance! If you’re interested, head on over and check things out and join the mailing list too!

I spent some time yesterday upgrading my laptop to Ubuntu 8.04. It took me quite a while since the release is very new still as the repositories are being hammered relentlessly and are quite slow. I have to say, though, so far I am pleased with the results. Everything works fine with the one exception of my Cisco VPN client which had to have this patch applied to get it to compile under the new kernel. Once that was done I was completely back in business.
I went with my daughter to see Expelled tonight. I have to say that I think it was fantastic. Now, it’s no secret that I am a Christian, so I don’t want this to sound biased in that matter. This movie is not about any sort of religious debate. The basis of this movie is the case of information suppression. Challenge yourself to go and see this movie no matter what your personal beliefs are. You may be surprised with what Ben has to say here.
When was the last time you were in a movie theater and the audience actually applauded at the end of the film? This was really that good!
I also happened to notice during my travels today that I *still* had my webhosts favicon for the tllts.org website. I did change ot to a friendly looking tux, however, I would really like it to be something special. For those of you with this kind of talent, how about a few submissions?

I was surfing the net as I usually do when there is nothing on tv on sayurdays when I came across SimplePie a php class that deftly handles rss feeds. I just have to say that this is freaking cool! I am not sure what I am going to do with it yet, but I am surely having fun playing with it right now.
Does anyone know of any other wickedly cool php classes like this that I have missed out on?
Addition:
Actually, it might be nice to have a tllts listeners planet blog in addition to the one that we have for the hosts. I am sure I can do this easily with simplepie. I just need some links. How about it folks?
Most of you know I work in Philadelphia. Most of you think I live there too, but this is not the case. I actually live 35 miles away in Downingtown, PA. Downigtown is nice and quiet and rural without being too far away from any modern convenience. Well, I shouldn’t say that because I still can’t get Papa Johns to deliver there, but I digress…
Even though I live in an apartment, it’s a very small apartment complex and it’s bordered by some woodsy countryside and within 50 feet of my door is a nice little creek. This creek has gained some notoriety as of late from my wife and dog who have been pleased to see some visiting ducks.
I too think they are pretty cool and thought I would share the pic my wife snapped yesterday.
Quack.
Isn’t it amazing the level of customer service you get these days?
Here’s a no brainer: Computer geeks get irritated when they do not receive the internet access they are paying for. They get even more frustrated when your service policy is “it’s not my problem”.
Thus has continually been my experience with comcast. Don’t get me wrong, the speed and connection is nice *when I have it*, but I have had 4 extended outages in less than a year, and it’s starting to try my patience. Further, when you are a customer service *technician* who has to flip through a manual to find out what your name is today, and the customer indicates you have “no clue”, you probably don’t and should forward the call on to someone who might.
My only salvation with my 16 hour outage yesterday was my next door neighbor, who just hapens to be a comcast service technician and knew the right people to call and bitch at.
I wonder what kinda deal I can get with verizon fios…….
