Not myth

I know there has been a lot of talk lately about MythTV by the rest of the gang. And I’ll tell you, it sounds like a fantastic thing to play with. Unfortunately, I just don’t currently have the resources, time or financially, to pursue it right now. The problem with that is that I really could use something similar in the house. You see, I never am home or available when the shows come on that I want to see. I have been just downloading the shows I want via bittorrent, but that is problematic as well. I constantly have to scour the web for them, then wait until they are downloaded, sometimes taking days depending upon how throttled that particular download and my/their ISP is. It’s just a pain.

So, over the weekend I just went out and bought a series 2 Tivo. It is a dual recorder that handles 80 hours of tv programming (or so they say). So far I am digging it. For a mere $99 I am getting a dual recorder and I am freed from the bondage of bittorrent. And, it does actually work pretty well so far. I have set up several season pass recordings and it’s just chugging along doing exactly what I bought it for. In fact, I am watching it as I type.

I guess I am a little slower with the technology than my friends, most of which have had a Tivo for years now and have now moved on to MythTV. I may go that way myself after a while, but I am enjoying this right now, and I have a brand new 1 year subscription to muddle my way through first 😉

Maybe the next thing I’ll try out is Apple TV.. Just for Pat 🙂
