So much to say about the Ohio Linux Fest 2007 trip I am not entirely sure where to start or even where to end yet…
I did want to say that this is the most fun I have had in a good while, and the most amazing thing happened there. I noticed that practically every “big name” Linux media person was there hanging out with us. The picture here tells the tale. From left to right we have:
Pat Davila (TLLTS), Dann Washko (TLLTS), Jeremy Garcia (LinuxQuestions.org), Chess Griffin (Linux Reality), Dave Yates (The Lotta Linux Links Podcast), Allan Metzler (TLLTS), Aaron Newcomb (The Source), and Linc Fessenden (TLLTS). And absent from the picture but present at the conference was also Don Paris, who brought LXer to fame and now runs the Blue Gnu.
Really, form a Linux media standpoint it was an incredible meeting, one that hadn’t ever happened before. The best part about it was the sense of comradery we all had. It was really like a meeting of the minds 🙂
The other big attraction was the ability there to connect with our listeners from the TechShow. I remember a few years ago going to conferences and being impressed that there were 3 or 4 people who had heard (or said they did) the show. Now it’s like that almost before we get off the plane. I think Allan described it best last night when he and I were talking and he mentioned how strange it was to be asked by a stranger to have his picture taken with them 🙂 (Hey, let’s get a picture next to the famous Allan!) It’s very easy as independent media producers to be so removed from your actual audience that you almost forget they are there. This was a *great* way to reconnect!
To that end, before I forget, there are a couple really special mentions that need to be made. Joel a.k.a. Gorkon, thanks for being our Columbus Connection and fielding deliveries for us. We truly appreciate it! Special thanks also to Vogateer and his wife and Shoprat for the donations. And thanks to the rest of you all that came by the booth to say hello. It was fantastic meeting you all!
Aww….Thank you Linc! Great time and looking forward to it next year.
