E-Cig Review: Mountain Vapor E-Juices
Now the very first thing I should do here is give a little information about myself and my review process. You should know that I am by no means a professional taster trained by some fancy establishment to hone my palate. Quite the contrary, I am your average meat and potatoes geeky guy with a particularly bad olfactory sense, however, I am a fat guy and have “sampled” a lot of food in my day 🙂 I have what some may consider a peculiar bent in my preference for e-juice and that is I really don’t like that whole throat hit thing. If I say there was no throat hit, to me that is a good thing. I gave up smoking cigarettes and have no desire to cough and gag any longer 🙂 That being said, I normally get a very low nicotine e-juice because that produces less throat hit, so you can pretty safely assume that if you *like* throat hit, you will probably get some with a higher nicotine level than I use.
For this particular review I ran the juice through some nice new cartomizers. I kind of like testing juices this way as opposed to tanks or clearomizers because they are more disposable and they give a good even and warm vapor production. Personal note if you are looking for a great late Linc holiday gift. I need more of them 🙂
Mountain Vapor sent me 4 different e-juice samples to try out and the only real info I got on them before they hit my mailbox was that all their juices are a 50/50 blend of vg/pg and that what makes them so unique is their extracts. When they arrived I found they sent 2 of their tobacco flavors and 2 of their non-tobacco flavors. Note here that they also have a “Therapeutic Flavor” called REV which sounds really interesting. I let all the samples “steep” for 2 weeks, which basically just involved shelving them that long without touching them.
The Tobacco flavors they sent were their USA Mix and Sweetleaf. I figured for sure that the USA Mix was going to be your typical “Red” flavor, you know the kind I am talking about. I was super pleasantly surprised that I was wrong! The USA Mix tastes to me like a really tasty mild blended tobacco base with this underlying warm chocolaty note. My sample is 6mg nic and there was almost no throat hit, which I found wonderful. It has a really nice vapor production and this could very easily be someones all day vape. It was just all around pleasant and I found myself actually wanting more.
The Sweetleaf was just as good! It also seems to be a mild blended tobacco base, but instead of that warm chocolaty note, there is this high sweet note that rides at the top of the vape. It is almost reminiscent of a good sweet tea taste on top of the tobacco. This one, however, also has a faint nutty taste to the exhale sometimes. At 6mg nic, the throat hit and vapor production are at the same level as the USA Mix.
The two non-tobacco flavors they sent were Peppermint and Apple Pie. The peppermint is a nice cooling refreshing peppermint. Think candy peppermint here and not an eye watering sinus clearing peppermint. This flavor has a little more throat hit and a little less vapor production at 6mg nic than the tobacco flavors I tried and it also has a little stiffer draw through my cartomizers for some reason.
Lastly was their Apple Pie. This is delicious – no two ways about it. This really does taste like Apple Pie and for a diabetic like me who is not supposed to have that anymore I was really digging it. Some of the things I picked out in the flavor here was that the apples (apple taste) is a tart Granny Smith like taste and I can also get a faint hint of Cinnamon spice in there somewhere too. 6mg nic and no throat hit but has good vapor. This juice not only vapes good but leaves this great pie taste on your lips and it smells fantastic. Right now my car smells like I hid a pie under the seat and that is a far cry better than 2 months ago when I was still a cigarette smoker!
I sort of owe a debt of gratitude to Mountain Vapor because up until this point, I was convinced that if I really wanted a no/low throat hit juice I was going to have to stick to 100% vg based juice. Now I am convinced it has more to do with the nicotine level and that has opened up a new world of vendors and flavors for me to try. You should really check these folks out. Not only do I like their juice, but they get all kinds of raves about them on the net too. When you go there, do drop them a note to say Linc sent you, but stay away from the Apple Pie. That is MINE!
