E-Cig Review: Vapor Alley and The Robust!
Some times doing reviews is a little extra cool. That is the case with VaporAlley. These folks sent me a Robust (mod) made by Rider or L Rider or eLite, depending on where you look and who you ask 🙂 Honestly, though, it really doesn’t matter who it comes from, only where it comes from, and you can get yours from VaporAlley for just $49. If you look around a bit on the net, that price is seriously reasonable for what you get, too!
The Robust is a Variable Voltage mod with all the bells and whistles you’d expect, and then some. It runs on a 14500 battery and does VV from 3.0 to 6.0 volts in 0.1 volt increments, round robin. The build on this is very solid, appears to be a nice stainless steel (rugged), 3 button, blue LCD display, with a vented battery cap. It has reverse battery protection, low voltage indicator, and short circuit protection too. The button operation is great. It’s a 3 button system, so there is a fire button, which illuminates and also will display the ohms of the attached tank/clearomizer/whatever by pressing it a quick 5 clicks. Above that there are 2 voltage control buttons (- and +) and along with controlling the voltage they each have an extra function as well. Press and hold the + button for 5 seconds and the unit will display the remaining battery voltage. Press and hold the – button for 5 seconds and the unit will power off (or on) which makes it safe for transport with no accidental misfires if you bump the fire button, which, by the way, is a rounded button and is slightly clicky, which I also like. One important note about the voltage buttons is that, unlike some other mods I have seen, if you press one of the buttons briefly to illuminate the display and see where you are set, it does NOT change the voltage on you, it just illuminates the display. If the display is already illuminated, then the voltage is adjusted. Nice feature!
The unit itself comes in 2 models, square or round (tubular) and a variety of colors, all with chrome endcaps. The unit I have is the square blue version and I have been sporting a nice blue tinted vivi nova tank on it. It is very nice looking and every vaper that has seen me with this mod has commented about it. It’s been quite a popular conversation piece for me in the past few weeks. Honestly, I wish they had sent me a round one too just to look at in hand and compare side by side. I will say, though, that I really appreciate the square form factor as it sits nicely in the hand and if you lay it down on the table it doesn’t roll away on you!The Robust has a 510/eGo connection on the top of it, and a NICE DEEP drip well. The reason I saved talking about the connection type until now was it has one feature I have never seen anywhere else yet, and that is a spring loaded center pin. No tugging on the pin or adjusting to get a good connection, just screw it on and you are ready to vape. This is a feature that I have come to really appreciate after using a pile of different eGo type batteries!
Now I have a couple 700mAh batteries I have been using with this and I can make it through a day on those two batteries without too much difficulty. Some people have accused me of not being much of a heavy vaper when I tell them that, but I think you would change your mind of you saw the haze in my office 🙂 Either way, I think the battery life in this mod is quite respectable.
After all the time I have spent with this in my hand there is only 1 picky thing about it that I wish were somehow different. That is that drip well I was talking about earlier. It is way nice to have one there, but this one is hard to clean. If you were to actually get something down in there, there really isn’t a lot of space to get anything in between the walls and the center post. There is not enough room for a Q-Tip, for instance, but you can manage it by folding some tissue and wedging it there if you work at it. Other than that, and, really, even with that, I absolutely dig this mod, and, like I mentioned, everyone that has seen it has as well.
Head on over to VaporAlley to pick up your Robust, and while you are there, check out the rest of their selection, which is quite extensive and priced well. This place is like a one stop shop for all the popular mods of the day. They have a great looking and easy to navigate website, excellent customer service and fast shipping! Tell them Linc sent you!
