To the rescue

Slackware
Once again, I am finally starting to creep out from under the rock of RL and post a bit. Thanks again to those of you who wrote me to motivate me and tell me that you miss my blog. I had a chance this weekend to play just a little bit and decided to finally set up my second server machine. It’s an HP laptop with a broken screen, sent in by a generous TechShow listener (thanks again Jeff). I figured I would do it up the same way as my other broken laptop server running Ubuntu, but the ‘buntu wouldn’t fly this time. No sir. I tried 2 different server releases and both of them horked before boot with some kind of nasty looking (disk maybe?) error. The install looked great, but no boot whatsoever. Undaunted, and to prove that the lappy was actually working and it was just Ubuntu, I reached for the old standby, Slackware. I just happened to have a copy of Slack 11 hanging out all lonely looking in my Linux CD binder, so that’s what went on. Wouldn’t ya know it, Slackware worked on the very first try. I would say that I am amazed, but really the reason I always reach for Slack as my backup is that I know it’ll work, and that is a testament in and of itself.

If there’s something you just need to have working, remember to reach for the Slack!
