E-Cig Review: Kingpin and the CE5 Clearomizer

CE5 Clearomizer

CE5 Clearomizer

A little while back I reviewed the Kingpin Hitman Passthrough CE5 Starter Kit. If you didn’t read that, you really should as it contains some great information about the passthrough batteries and accessories in the kit. An interesting thing happened, though, in the review of the kit. As murphy’s law dictates, something will go wrong and it did. It was only after the review that we became aware that this wasn’t **exactly** the kit I was supposed to get for review. Apparently I was accidentally sent an earlier model of the kit which included some 510-T tank goodies (which I till think are awesome btw), and this kit is supposed to actually include 2 CE5 Clearomizers instead (all the new versions do). So, Kingpin graciously sent me a couple to add to the kit I had and to update my review with, and this is the update!

Clearomizers are generally a smaller capacity sort of tank that holds your e-juice. They all have a wicking system in place to get the e-juice to the atomizer instead of being filled with a filler material to hold your e-juice. Most of these clearomizers hold between 1 and 3 ml of the e-juice and the great thing about most of them is it is very easy to actually see how much e-juice you have left in them. No guess work as to when you are going to run out. Generally speaking I believe they also deliver a crisper flavor vape as there is less filler to sort of filter the juice ingredients from the atomizer.

Using these things is really easy. The top tip of the clearomizer (mouthpiece) just unscrews, which allows you direct access into the inside to fill. All you need to remember here is to not drop your e-juice straight down the center, put it down the sides and don’t overfill. Filling to the last filler mark painted on the clearomizer side will keep you from going too far. After filling, give your clearomizer a few minutes to actually wick some of your e-juice to the atomizer and you are ready to go! These things are designed to give a great vapor production and work well on just about any kind of battery you put underneath them.

As with most products, not all clearomizers are created equal and these have some great features like the fact that they are easily broken down into separate components to be cleaned and reused or even replaced. I already mentioned that the top will unscrew, but you can also unscrew the base as well giving you complete access to clean the actual outside tube, through and through. On the base piece you will notice a long stem with wicks attached and a little silicone rubber cap atop of it. This is where your atomizer is. Cleaning this whole setup is easy as well. A simple good rinse under hot water will mostly do the trick here and if you notice any lingering scents or flavors, you can try removing that rubber cap and cleaning that independently. I had to do this myself to get rid of some banana tasting e-juice for a changeover. Now you can either let all this dry out overnight, which I find works the best, or you can simply blot the entire thing dry with a paper towel and reuse straight away. If you chose to do the later, you may want to do a dry burn or two (this is just firing the atomizer up without any e-juice) to get all the moisture out of the wick and atomizer, but if you do this, priming the atomizer is a good idea. To prime, pop that top rubber cap off and drip 1 drop of your e-juice directly down onto the wrapped wires of the atomizer, then reassemble the whole thing, fill and vape!

Hitman Kit

Hitman Kit

Back to the kit! This kit, as I mentioned, actually comes with 2 of these clearomizers and 3 replaceable cores for them, along with the previously mentioned 2 passthrough batteries, a great little carry case, charger and a manual. You really can’t go wrong here for the $55. These things just last and last and are a pleasure to use. The batteries aren’t a huge capacity, however, the passthrough function lets you charge and vape at the same time and then there is the fact that you also have 2 of them! 2 batteries with 2 clearomizers means you can do 2 different flavors of e-juice without a wash and rinse if you so desire (and I do). I haven’t tried a huge amount of e-cig gear yet, but certainly enough to tell you that no matter what else I am trying out at the moment, it’s this particular kit that I always have handy, whether it is to run different juices through or as my much desired backup system.

Thanks Kingpin!

Linux Mint 14 XFCE Edition

Linux Mint 14 xfce

Linux Mint 14 xfce

Woo! It has been a while since I posted about any linuxy things here and I was just going to veg today, but I promised 🙂

It’s no secret that I have had a thing for Linux Mint for quite a while. It is a solid reliable distribution that “just works” and, personally, it’s the one I have to piss with the least in order to get it working the way I like. That being said, as I posted about earlier, I noticed a few things on Mint 14 (Cinnamon) that contributed to keeping me off of it for a while. Most have been fixed, like the processor pegging, but the nagging issue with not being able to set custom keyboard shortcuts was a stinker. Honestly, at this point I have been so busy the last fre weeks I haven’t had a chance to see if that has been resolved yet. All that being said, I have this old laptop that I have traditionally run the XFCE edition on because it haqs lower resources. The XFCE edition has always worked a treat on this thing and I finally had the opportunity to upgrade from Mint 13 to 14 and really beat on it a little bit. In fact, that is what I am typing on now.

So just to be clear, I followed the recommended upgrade path, which is to say, clean reinstall. This seems to bother a lot of people but in Mint’s defense, I believe this is the best way to go from distribution to distribution. When you do an in place upgrade (which is possible) it takes tremendously longer imho, and then you are left sometimes with little residual bits and bobs issues to deal with that may or may not spring up on you at an inopportune time. Conversely, the clean install method of backing up your important bits, clean reinstall, and restoring the bits again is really relatively quick and painless. It does count on you having good backups, but, for sure, if you are doing an in place upgrade without good backups, you are lighting the disaster fuse 🙂

So, what is new on xfce edition? It doesn’t seem like there are any earth shattering changes here, mostly userland and kernel updates. Everything works really well and very quick, just as it did under 13. I would like to say I am surprised, but I am not. I have come to expect a certain level of quality from the Mint folks and they hardly ever disappoint. That’s why I always recommend their distribution, especially to newbies. People need to have a go-to distro that just works.

If you haven’t tried XFCE before and are contrasting it with Cinnamon or gnome (standard) you would certainly feel right at home and comfortable. While being a good bit lighter than the other DE’s xfce does well with providing you a similar set of programs, look and feel. Instead of a nautilus file manager, you generally have thunar, which works very well and much the same. Other differences are xfterm instead of gnome-terminal – still carries much of the same feel and functionality, etc.. You also have many of the same setup options, such as some ability for composting, screensavers, desktop backgrounds, virtual desktops and the rest of the things you are used to having control over. The menuing system has a bit of a different feel, but it is easily navigable.

As a lighter desktop option, there are still some things, some tweaks that you might need to take care of manually though. I will give you one example. For one reason or another xfce’s default icon text color was black. Well, as you can see from my screenshot, that doesn’t really work well for people like myself who like darker backgrounds (the default bg for Mint is a very light grey). I wanted to change that text color to white so I could, you know, read it 🙂 While not very hard, it involves editing the .gtk-xfce file in your home directory and changing all the color codes (3 there) from #000000 to #FFFFFF. The resulting file looks like so:

style “xfdesktop-icon-view” {
XfdesktopIconView::label-alpha = 0

fg[NORMAL] = “#FFFFFF”
fg[SELECTED] = “#FFFFFF”
fg[ACTIVE] = “#FFFFFF”
}
widget_class “*XfdesktopIconView*” style “xfdesktop-icon-view”

The rest of the customization, outside of fixing network manager’s dns control, which I think is a horrible idea, is pure userland. There are a bunch of programs that I personally use that make me able to do what I do and I naturally put all my customization into a script to be able to share it. You’ll need to run this as root and not just sudo it to get it to work correctly. To oget to a root account simply open a term and do a “sudo su -” and you’ll br prompted for your password. Once you give it, you are root. Just run this program for all the goodies. One other oddity I found was that after the initial reboot, when you are logging in, you *must* choose xfce as your session type. If you do not, you won’t get a desktop environment 🙂 Once you choose it once, though, it’ll ask you if you want to make it your default. Yes is a good answer here 🙂 Then you’ll be a rockin’!

Here is fixmint14.sh

E-Cig Review: VapeDojo and the eGo-V

VapeDojo

VapeDojo

Ahh, finally we get to the VapeDojo review!

There is a funny story behind this. The VapeDojo *almost* made my list of vendors who didn’t respond to me if it weren’t for some of my very cool listeners 🙂 I sent VapeDojo an email and was patiently waiting for a reply, ok maybe not so patiently, when I was contacted by some listeners about getting a vape starter kit. It just so happened at the time that VapeDojo was running this fantastic deal on their Katana kit, which is a 650mAh eGo battery, a usb charger and a CE4 clearomizer, for only $13, an absolutely amazing price. So I kept sending people there for this kit, by the droves and one or more of them mentioned I was sending them there, causing the VapeDojo to actually return my mail. This is a great thing because these guys have some great stuff there, they are a semi-local brick and mortar shop and I want to make sure to support them – brick and mortars are in high demand in my area.

Mr. Roboto aka eGo-V

Mr. Roboto aka eGo-V

So, as it turns out, after a few emails, VapeDojo decided they wanted to send me some review stuffs. Unbeknownst to them I had already tried a couple juices as I piggybacked them on a friends order. They sent along one of their Mr. Roboto kits and a Vivi Nova tank, sporting the VapeDojo Logo, which I really dig. To the left you can see a pic of the entire rig all put together and working.

The Mr.Roboto ($33) is a 650mAh eGo-V variable voltage passthrough battery with a nifty blue LCD display at the bottom. This comes in a nice little box containing the battery, an eGo thread/skirt/adapter a USB charging cable, an instruction manual and an extra fire button which I will get to later. This battery comes in black, grey which I got and silver. I think the silver/stainless is the bare battery and the colors are actually this rubbery grippy covering. This is a good looking mod with that nice blue LCD display and chrome on both ends. It feels nice and solid as eGos generally do and is comfortable to hold.

eGo-V button

eGo-V button

The thing I noticed immediately on this, and it has been mentioned from other reviewers as well, is the fire button is mighty hard to find. The reason for this is it is located up almost at the top of the battery and it is their “soft touch” design. Basically there is this rubber ring around the top of the eGo and the button is integrated into this ring (hence the extra button in the box). It is almost flush and, although you *can* feel it, it certainly does not jump out at you as being the fire button and it makes it difficult to operate in the dark (yes I vape in bed, don’t judge me). It is nicely illuminated with a blue LED when you push it though. 5 click on and off just as you have come to expect from your eGo batteries.

The variable voltage stuff is really nice on here and if you are looking at a spinner or a twist as opposed to this you would be crazy. There is no comparison. Although my multimeter is currently down, I have done a fair amount of searching and from what I can tell, the voltage out on this is *very* well behaved. More so than some very expensive mods out there. This will do 3-6volts in 0.1 volt increments in a round robin fashion. There are 2 voltage control buttons with the + up top and – right underneath. If you hold down both buttons for 3 seconds you will lock in the voltage so you won’t be accidentally changing it until another 3 second hold unlocks it. Speaking of that, when the display is dark, you can press either button to illuminate the display without changing the voltage. The voltage only changes when the display is already lit and you push a button. This is a nice feature that not everybody shares. Speaking of twists and spinners, you may know you can get those in much larger capacities than the 650mAh with this, so why this then? Well, with a spinner or twist at the end of your mAh you are stuck sucking air, This, however, is a passthrough, so you can charge it while you are vaping and although 650mAh may not seem like a lot, I *can* make it though a work day with one charge, however, I don’t have to because of the passthrough 🙂

I broke it already

I broke it already

I did have one issue with this other than finding the fire button, and that was the bottom end cap. For some reason it just popped off one day and would NOT stick back on. This is just a little chrome colored plastic cap and I fixed it in 20 seconds with 1 drop of superglue. Is this a big deal? Not in the least, and it sure wouldn’t stop me from getting one even if I was sure that every one of them would have this issue 🙂

They also sent along one of their viv nova tanks (a clear version). These are rebuildable with different ohm replacement heads and very cleanable and maintainable. They also vape really well – REALLY well, and hold 3.5ml of e-juice so you can do so all day long! No noticeable gurgling so far and I have run 3 tanks through mine and even disassembled and cleaned it once. Cleaning it as simple as take apart, rinse thoroughly with hot running water, re assemble and let dry (overnight). The kit VapeDojo sells this with comes with the tank, 3 heads and a drip tip for just $8. That is a helluva good deal wherever you look.

These are good people doing good business and deserve your patronage. I am going to keep sending people there and you should go too – in fact, in recent days people have asked a lot about where to get those eGo-V’s and this is the place! These guys have excellent customer service, they are very personable and fast shipping. +1 for VapeDojo! When you go, tell them Linc sent ya!

E-Cig Review: Velvet Cloud Vapor – E-Juice

Velvet Cloud Vapor

Velvet Cloud Vapor

Velvet Cloud Vapor!

You know, sometimes a brand in general sort of reminds you of something, and for some reason VCV doesn’t remind me of San Francisco, but of New England. I guess it is that whole feeling of just settling in on a cold day with a nice tobacco… Then again, I have been in New England on a cold day with a nice tobacco and I have never been to San Francisco 🙂

So, 2 e-juice reviews in a row! Yes, that is how I roll, and my vaping palate is now getting a much needed workout! Velvet Cloud Vapor sent me 5 samples for review, White Beard, Night Shift, Catherine the Grape, Mewlew’s Magic Blend and Monkey Business. Now of note here is that VCV uses 100% VG + some distilled water and flavorings. No PG, so for those of you either with an affinity for 100% VG like me, or if you have some PG based allergy, these guys are a good place to go! For the purposes of this review, I used some CE2 clearomizers and my 510-T tank system (again, thanks Kingpin) as I am clean out of cartomizers at this point. Not to spoil the review for you, but you are going to want to use this stuff in a tank or clearomizer anyhow because you are going to want to hit this stuff all day long, just like I did.

First off was the White Beard. This brought a vision to my mind of Gandalf Smoking (from the Hobbit) see here that I just could not shake. That is just how I imagined it. This is a complex mild tobacco blend with a hint of some creamy sweetness in there somewhere. The website says butterscotch and custard and old timey favorites, and after reading about it I could indeed identify the custard as that creamy part. It is quite delicious. Lots of vapor here and really no throat at the 6mg nic strength, and that is the way I like it! This is just sooo smoooth!

Next up was Night Shift. I am not going to snow you here. I have tried a lot of different e-juices by now and his is one of my all-time favorites. Again, not throaty but billows of vapor production, this is a chocolaty coffee-ish flavor. The website says creamy coffee and glazed chocolate donut. This is spot on what I taste. I dig this. A lot.

Catherine the Grape is a really interesting flavor and the brightest of the samples they sent me. I suppose that is sort of par for the course with this being the 1 fruity flavor, but even at that, this is a lot different that you might expect. I really expected a grape coolaid kind of flavor but maybe with a twist but what is there is only the twist part. This is NOTHING like your average grape flavor. It is grape, for sure, but *real* grape. Think purple grapes from the market kind of grape. A sophisticated adult grape taste. Their website says this is pipinot noir grape and black currant but as I am not much of a wine drinker (whiskey, scotch) I will have to take their word for it. For a grape flavor, I really like this a lot and I really was surprised by it. At 6mg nic it has good vapor and just a little throat, probably from the fruit juice. Delicious.

Mewlew’s Magic Blend. What can I say? This is Chocolate Cake. If you could smoke/vape a chocolate cake, this would be it. You know, that ultra moist kind of chocolate cake. Yummy. The only thing odd I noticed was on an exhale I sometimes tasted this odd but not unpleasant flavor way at the back of my tongue. I initially though this might be a holdover from a previous juice in my tank/atomizer, but even after vigorous cleaning it was still there. It is almost a nutty kind of taste and it wasn’t until I read the description that I settled on a fudgy sort of aftertaste. The description they give on the site is chocolates, cream, butterscotch, donuts and fudge. If you have a chocolate cake weakness, this is your personal crack. Lots of flavor and loads of vapor from this one. I would love to hang for a while in this Mewlew person’s kitchen 🙂

The last juice in the set here is Monkey Business. Now it is VERY important for you all to understand how much I dislike bananas. I think for me it’s much more of a texture problem than the flavor because I always liked the occasional banana chip, just cannot at all stand the fruit. As you can imagine, with the name and the banana smell when I cracked open the bottle, I approached this flavor with some trepidation. I did, however, promise a review and, being a man of my word, I set out to vape the stuffing out of it. The vapor production on this is enormous and thick – on the level with the White Beard. The flavor, for me was another shocker. This stuff tastes a lot like the Night Shift (which I adore) with just the slightest overtone of banana. There is a good bit of banana fragrance but the taste is not overpowering in the juice, which I assumed it would be. I remarked to a coworker (a banana lover) about being really surprised that this was so good. I could easily vape this right along and really enjoy it. The smell is similar to those chocolate covered bananas that I have seen (other) people eat. Very nice!

Velvet Cloud Vapor get’s a definitive A+ grade in my book. They are easily one of my favorite e-juice makers and I certainly hope they want me to check out more of their stuff! I also made note of the glowing reviews they seem to have everywhere you look on the web. It is well deserved to be sure. Pricing there is $8 for a 15ml, $15 for 30ml bottle, and that is darned decent, especially considering the quality, in fact, it’s downright cheap. Great personal communication from these guys, fast shipping and even a personalized note in my mail makes these guys tops. When you go there to order your juice (and you are just silly if you don’t), tell them Linc sent you. Hurry though, don’t want them to run out before you get your order of Night Shift filled 🙂

E-Cig Review: Mountain Vapor E-Juices

Mountain Vapor E-Juices!

Now the very first thing I should do here is give a little information about myself and my review process. You should know that I am by no means a professional taster trained by some fancy establishment to hone my palate. Quite the contrary, I am your average meat and potatoes geeky guy with a particularly bad olfactory sense, however, I am a fat guy and have “sampled” a lot of food in my day 🙂 I have what some may consider a peculiar bent in my preference for e-juice and that is I really don’t like that whole throat hit thing. If I say there was no throat hit, to me that is a good thing. I gave up smoking cigarettes and have no desire to cough and gag any longer 🙂 That being said, I normally get a very low nicotine e-juice because that produces less throat hit, so you can pretty safely assume that if you *like* throat hit, you will probably get some with a higher nicotine level than I use.

For this particular review I ran the juice through some nice new cartomizers. I kind of like testing juices this way as opposed to tanks or clearomizers because they are more disposable and they give a good even and warm vapor production. Personal note if you are looking for a great late Linc holiday gift. I need more of them 🙂

Mountain Vapor sent me 4 different e-juice samples to try out and the only real info I got on them before they hit my mailbox was that all their juices are a 50/50 blend of vg/pg and that what makes them so unique is their extracts. When they arrived I found they sent 2 of their tobacco flavors and 2 of their non-tobacco flavors. Note here that they also have a “Therapeutic Flavor” called REV which sounds really interesting. I let all the samples “steep” for 2 weeks, which basically just involved shelving them that long without touching them.

The Tobacco flavors they sent were their USA Mix and Sweetleaf. I figured for sure that the USA Mix was going to be your typical “Red” flavor, you know the kind I am talking about. I was super pleasantly surprised that I was wrong! The USA Mix tastes to me like a really tasty mild blended tobacco base with this underlying warm chocolaty note. My sample is 6mg nic and there was almost no throat hit, which I found wonderful. It has a really nice vapor production and this could very easily be someones all day vape. It was just all around pleasant and I found myself actually wanting more.

The Sweetleaf was just as good! It also seems to be a mild blended tobacco base, but instead of that warm chocolaty note, there is this high sweet note that rides at the top of the vape. It is almost reminiscent of a good sweet tea taste on top of the tobacco. This one, however, also has a faint nutty taste to the exhale sometimes. At 6mg nic, the throat hit and vapor production are at the same level as the USA Mix.

The two non-tobacco flavors they sent were Peppermint and Apple Pie. The peppermint is a nice cooling refreshing peppermint. Think candy peppermint here and not an eye watering sinus clearing peppermint. This flavor has a little more throat hit and a little less vapor production at 6mg nic than the tobacco flavors I tried and it also has a little stiffer draw through my cartomizers for some reason.

Lastly was their Apple Pie. This is delicious – no two ways about it. This really does taste like Apple Pie and for a diabetic like me who is not supposed to have that anymore I was really digging it. Some of the things I picked out in the flavor here was that the apples (apple taste) is a tart Granny Smith like taste and I can also get a faint hint of Cinnamon spice in there somewhere too. 6mg nic and no throat hit but has good vapor. This juice not only vapes good but leaves this great pie taste on your lips and it smells fantastic. Right now my car smells like I hid a pie under the seat and that is a far cry better than 2 months ago when I was still a cigarette smoker!

I sort of owe a debt of gratitude to Mountain Vapor because up until this point, I was convinced that if I really wanted a no/low throat hit juice I was going to have to stick to 100% vg based juice. Now I am convinced it has more to do with the nicotine level and that has opened up a new world of vendors and flavors for me to try. You should really check these folks out. Not only do I like their juice, but they get all kinds of raves about them on the net too. When you go there, do drop them a note to say Linc sent you, but stay away from the Apple Pie. That is MINE!

E-Cig Review: Vapor Alley and The Robust!

VaporAlley

VaporAlley

The Robust

The Robust

This thing Rocks!

Some times doing reviews is a little extra cool. That is the case with VaporAlley. These folks sent me a Robust (mod) made by Rider or L Rider or eLite, depending on where you look and who you ask 🙂 Honestly, though, it really doesn’t matter who it comes from, only where it comes from, and you can get yours from VaporAlley for just $49. If you look around a bit on the net, that price is seriously reasonable for what you get, too!

The Robust is a Variable Voltage mod with all the bells and whistles you’d expect, and then some. It runs on a 14500 battery and does VV from 3.0 to 6.0 volts in 0.1 volt increments, round robin. The build on this is very solid, appears to be a nice stainless steel (rugged), 3 button, blue LCD display, with a vented battery cap. It has reverse battery protection, low voltage indicator, and short circuit protection too. The button operation is great. It’s a 3 button system, so there is a fire button, which illuminates and also will display the ohms of the attached tank/clearomizer/whatever by pressing it a quick 5 clicks. Above that there are 2 voltage control buttons (- and +) and along with controlling the voltage they each have an extra function as well. Press and hold the + button for 5 seconds and the unit will display the remaining battery voltage. Press and hold the – button for 5 seconds and the unit will power off (or on) which makes it safe for transport with no accidental misfires if you bump the fire button, which, by the way, is a rounded button and is slightly clicky, which I also like. One important note about the voltage buttons is that, unlike some other mods I have seen, if you press one of the buttons briefly to illuminate the display and see where you are set, it does NOT change the voltage on you, it just illuminates the display. If the display is already illuminated, then the voltage is adjusted. Nice feature!

Robust Round

Robust Round

The unit itself comes in 2 models, square or round (tubular) and a variety of colors, all with chrome endcaps. The unit I have is the square blue version and I have been sporting a nice blue tinted vivi nova tank on it. It is very nice looking and every vaper that has seen me with this mod has commented about it. It’s been quite a popular conversation piece for me in the past few weeks. Honestly, I wish they had sent me a round one too just to look at in hand and compare side by side. I will say, though, that I really appreciate the square form factor as it sits nicely in the hand and if you lay it down on the table it doesn’t roll away on you!

The Robust has a 510/eGo connection on the top of it, and a NICE DEEP drip well. The reason I saved talking about the connection type until now was it has one feature I have never seen anywhere else yet, and that is a spring loaded center pin. No tugging on the pin or adjusting to get a good connection, just screw it on and you are ready to vape. This is a feature that I have come to really appreciate after using a pile of different eGo type batteries!

Now I have a couple 700mAh batteries I have been using with this and I can make it through a day on those two batteries without too much difficulty. Some people have accused me of not being much of a heavy vaper when I tell them that, but I think you would change your mind of you saw the haze in my office 🙂 Either way, I think the battery life in this mod is quite respectable.

After all the time I have spent with this in my hand there is only 1 picky thing about it that I wish were somehow different. That is that drip well I was talking about earlier. It is way nice to have one there, but this one is hard to clean. If you were to actually get something down in there, there really isn’t a lot of space to get anything in between the walls and the center post. There is not enough room for a Q-Tip, for instance, but you can manage it by folding some tissue and wedging it there if you work at it. Other than that, and, really, even with that, I absolutely dig this mod, and, like I mentioned, everyone that has seen it has as well.

Head on over to VaporAlley to pick up your Robust, and while you are there, check out the rest of their selection, which is quite extensive and priced well. This place is like a one stop shop for all the popular mods of the day. They have a great looking and easy to navigate website, excellent customer service and fast shipping! Tell them Linc sent you!

E-Cig Review: SafeCig

SafeCig

SafewCig

Original Starter Kit Deluxe

Original Starter Kit Deluxe

SafeCig is a really popular brand of electronic cigarette and they were also kind enough to send me out some review samples. They sent along one of their very nice Original Starter Kit Deluxe kits (I know, sounds a bit redundant, but that is what it is) 🙂

This kit, retailing for $110.36, includes quite an impressive assortment of goodies for a new e-smoker. It has 3 batteries, 2 USB chargers, a mains adapter, a safe case and 2 of their refill packs.

The e-cig(s) in this kit look and feel, for the most part, like traditional cigarettes. They are white with a tan “filter” portion, a little world looking logo and a glowing orange led “ember” when you smoke them. All the batteries are automatic and work when you puff on them and they are designed to last a bit more than 200 puffs a piece. They charge completely in about an hour and a half. This really is a no muss no fuss setup and everything appears to work well.

The real draw of this particular brand (pun intended) is probably the cartridges (or cartomizers). Many places offer a wide variety of flavors, but these are pretty unique, at least in my opinion. Instead of exotic flavors like grape and peppermint these are more in line with different tobacco blends like “Brazilian” and “Madrid”. Taste being a very subjective thing, I thought their menthol was pretty decent, some of their tobacco flavors were really good and some were a bit too earthy for me (read, tasted like dirt) 🙂 You really should try them all though if you pick up this system, and, conveniently enough, they offer 2 types of refill packs at $12.25 a piece that will give you a sample of every flavor they have. These are called the Gold and Silver Variety Packs. This brings up a really unique packaging note as well. These refill packs *look* like mini cigarette box packs. They each hold 7 cartomizers, which, depending upon how and how much you smoke should be the equivalent of between 7 and 10 or so packs of traditional cigarettes. That is a pretty substantial savings over regular smokes.

The last thing I wanted to mention is the inclusion of a “safe” carrying case. Now the review sample I received did not contain one of these for me to check out, however, as you can imagine, I have seen a few cases similar to what is presented on the website, and this is a good thing to have. They come in a variety of colors and will keep your important investment safe and convenient.

While $110 for an e-cig kit may sound a little steep for some, you do get a lot of extras here. 2 chargers, 3 batteries and 14 cartomizers is pretty substantial. All that being said, they do offer a few more economical selections as well, like their Original Starter Kit (no pro or deluxe) which has 1 battery, 1 USB charger, 1 mains adapter and 1 refill pack for only $45 (still 7-10 packs of smokes). A very decent deal. The final icing here is their warranty. You get a lifetime warranty on the hardware and 30 day money back guarantee. Go check them out today, and let them know Linc sent you!

E-Cig Review: VapingXtreme & iTaste MVP

VapingXtreme

VapingXtreme

iTaste MVP

iTaste MVP

How do you tell who is a really great vendor? When one of these shows up in your mailbox!

VapingXtreme sent out an iTaste MVP for me to check out and I have been having the time of my life with it! The iTaste MVP is put out by Innokin and it is a variable voltage ecig (mod) with some nice features. This thing will do from 3.0 to 5.0 volts in .1 volt increments. It has a puff counter, which despite what others say can actually be useful. It is a passthrough mod, which means you can charge it while you are using it at the same time. It has a 3 click on/off safety feature, short circuit and over discharge protection, all for only $65! WOOT! And if you think that sounds good, wait till I tell you this: It has a 2600 mAh battery in it! I have literally been using this thing daily for 3 weeks and I *just* recharged it for the 3rd time! Not only does this battery last a long time, they also made this entire device a mobile USB charger as well. Yes, if you look at the bottom you will see not only the charging port (micro USB) but also a full sized USB port and an auxiliary switch. If you plug a USB powered device into that full sized port and turn on the aux switch, you have power a plenty for charging your cellphone. camera, or what have you, when you are out and on the go.

The MVP comes in 3 colors, steel (the one I have), blue and black. Each has a little mirror finish led display area on the bottom left hand side with 2 buttons at the bottom of that which adjust your voltage up and down. When adjusting your voltage, there is an automatic rollover backwards and forwards from 5 to 3 volts, and the MVP also remembers your previous voltage setting whether off or on, charging or not. Right in the center of the front at the top is the fire button. As I mentioned before, 3 clicks on and off. This button is also lighted and gives some indication as to the remaining battery capacity when you fire it. If the button turns green on fire, you have a full charge. Yellow is a medium charge, and red indicates you need to charge the device soon.

Now the kit the iTaste comes with really completes the package. The iTaste MVP arrives in this nice clear plastic display case. Inside, you get the MVP, a beauty ring for the collar of the MVP, a USB cable which not only works to charge the MVP but also will double as a charging cable capable of interfacing with multiple types of devices, 2 clearomizers and a feature illustration. The clearomizers look pretty sharp on the MVP, making it look, to me, kind of like a walkie-talkie. They work really well and I ran 100% VG (cinnamon even) in one for 3 weeks with no cracking and no dry hits. I only recently pulled it off to see how difficult they would be to clean (rinse and air dry btw) and to see how cool the iTaste would look with a pretty tank sitting on top of it. I have to say that I just really dig this mod. It works great, it’s nice to hold, hefty, solid, feels sort of pipe-ish to vape, fires every time and seems to just last forever! At this price point I would have to say it would be silly not to get one of these. You know you want it 🙂 And just remember, you do not have to buy batteries or a charger or clearomizers, etc., already included!

There are, however, some things I would change. The manual isn’t really a manual, but pretty much a picture of where the buttons are. Then again, this device is really not rocket science and shouldn’t require a big manual. If I were the designer, I think I would have put the stem of the device in the center of the top. Just my aesthetic preference I guess. Lastly, the chrome beauty ring sort of overhangs the edge of the mod when it is on. Not by much, just enough to notice.

All that said, would I buy it? Yes, and you should too. The faults I found are really nitpicky and have more to do with my personal sense of aesthetics rather than any functional issues, and that is primarily because there ARE NO functional issues that I could find. If you are at all in the market for a box mod or a new VV mod, or you are a new guy like me looking for your first big boy/girl ecig, or just looking for something unique and different, this is your new best friend. Go hit VapingXtreme and pick yours up today and tell them Linc sent you.

OH, almost forgot, if you dig cinn-a-bun e-juice, you should make a pitstop at VapingXtreme as well! They sent me a nice sample to try with the MVP and, other than me being too new to think of actually shaking the bottle before initially trying it, it is pretty tasty 🙂 I initially just dumped this stuff in a clearomizer and it tasted to me like burnt pizza. When I mentioned this to Mark from VapingXtreme, he said I might do better after shaking the bottle up to mix it better. He was, of course, right 🙂 Hey, we all live and learn! Speaking of that, the reason you should go here to buy your goodies instead of somewhere else is they offer a lot of nice products there all in one place and they were awful nice to me and helped me through my usual series of dumb questions without batting an eye. Good service!

E-Cig Review: AquaVapor

AquaVapor eGo Tank Kit

AquaVapor eGo Tank Kit

AquaVapor! MAN it took a long time to do a review for these folks. Why you ask? Well, because they seem to carry *everything* and they sent a lot of it this way for me to look at! Of course, I wanted to maintain a decent and fair trial period, so this did take me a while.

The first thing I want to talk about is the PCC Bundle. This kit comes with 2 batteries in white, black, stainless or pink in automatic or manual. It comes with 5 cartomizers, brown or black in varying nicotine strengths of tobacco or menthol. It comes with your typical USB charging gear, a free bottle of e-juice for refills (many strengths and flavors) , an instruction manual and a slick little portable charging case. That is a pretty complete kit, but wait! They offer more! For a few extra dollars you can get some add-ons like extra batteries, cartomizers, a car charger or carrying case. This is a deal that is really hard to beat at $60 and it contains EVERYTHING I would recommend for a starter kit by default. Color variety aside, this is pretty standard stuff. Everything works well here (unless you have a bad outlet and short your PCC out like I did) and the pre-filled cartomizers work great and taste good with decent vapor (and no smell – so nice not to stink up my car anymore). They easily pass my chain vaping drive to work test, and with the extra battery and PCC you won’t be left stranded in nic-fit land. They even sent me an extra of one of their e-cig hard cases in blue. Very nice way to carry your gear around AND it smartly has a spot in there for your USB charger as well. This worked really well for me after I burned up my PCC (again this was entirely my fault).

The other kit they sent my way was their eGo Tank Starter Kit. I *really* liked this kit and got quite a lot of use out of it so far. This comes with 2 900mAh eGo batteries, 2 CE5 clearomizers, your charging gear, a bottle of e-juice, an empty needle filler bottle and a manual, all wrapped up in a nice little gift box for $60. Some people may raise an eyebrow at that price until they look again at the battery specs, 900mAh! Most peoples kits come with 650mAh batteries for starters, but not these guys! These things last a *long* time. They come in black, stainless or pink for the ladies (mine were stainless) and have the standard eGo safety features like the 5 click on and off, so they are completely pocketable with no worry about accidental activations. The real bonus here is the free upgrade to CE5 clearomizers. These things are really nice and easy to fill. The take 1.5 (or 6) ml of juice and come completely apart with replaceable pieces – base, atomizer head, tip, etc. you name it! They work really well for me, even with some 100% VG juice and NO LEAKING. Get these and you’ll be vaping like a chimney! Much like the PCC package you can get extras here as well and AV was cool enough to throw in one of their eGo semi-soft cases. As long as you unscrew the clearomizers from the batteries, there is plenty of room in there to carry all your kit along with you in your travels.

Lastly, AquaVapor sent me a 200ml sampler of their e-juice line ($55). Before I got the box open on this I thought it was a brick. Once opened I found 20 sample bottles 🙂 WOW!! I still haven’t tried all the flavors yet, but I have gone through most and I can tell you one thing for sure. They mean what they print on the label! What I mean is this isn’t one of those gourmet type things where you taste it and say, hey, I think I taste a cinnamon note in that. Nope. If the label says cinnamon, the juice SCREAMS CINNAMON from the rooftops! The menthol is *serious* menthol. The mint will not only clear your sinuses, but those around you by proxy 🙂 The notable exceptions here are those that are supposed to be milder by name, like the flu cured tobacco. That is really nice and mellow, just like it should be. And for you cigar smokers out there, they have cigar flavors that smell more like cigars than cigars do. You just TRY and tell me somewhere else that you can get 200ml of different juices for a little more than fifty bucks. Shoot, most places sell 30ml bottles for around $25!

These guys totally rock with their prices and selection and with the exception of some of the really expensive mods out there, I think you can find just about anything you are looking for. One stop shopping! I know I’ll be shopping there and sending others as well! I’ll meet you there and when you go, tell ’em Linc sent you. And hint that Linc wants to review their MyGo VV starter kit 🙂 And look at the prices!

E-Cig Review: LeCig

LeCig PigCig

LeCig PigCig

LeCig is one of those companies with a sort of novelty gimmick, but I have to say it’s one that I enjoyed. Some days it’s the simple things that bring a smile to my face! 🙂

LeCig sells lots of things, but they allowed me to review their PigCig starter kit . I actually really liked this. I enjoyed the whole piggy thing and I also enjoyed picking out a pigomizer to try with it, but I’ll get to that in a minute. The PigCig kit comes with 2 batteries, 2 cones, a 5 pack of mega cartomizers, a USB charger, a mains adapter, a manual and a nice LeCig case for $75.

Although 650 mAh batteries come standard with the kit at that price, I picked out a 1300 mAh too, for $4 more. I got a nice black and a red one. These are eGo-ish looking batteries which are sporting 808 connectors on them. They have lighted buttons and are 3-click on and off so you can carry them around with no fear of accidental activation. For some reason, possibly the colored covering, these are more rugged / solid feeling than a regular eGo battrery. Either way, they worked surprisingly well. They both included matching battery cones as well. This is a nice edition, however, I am not sure it’s needed other than for aesthetics. You cannot use a clearomizer with the cone and using the cone with one of their cartomizers produces a stiff draw. It does look nice though 🙂

Speaking of their cartomizers. You get 5 with your kit. They have several choices to choose from, menthol, hilton, regular, tobacco, or blank. I chose menthol so can only comment on that. The menthol was *very* menthol. Most other menthols in the e-cig world that I have tried are actually more of a minty thing. Not this. There was *no* mistaking this for anything other than a straight menthol smoke. Not bad at all and I do not believe any regular menthol smoker would disagree. They should be quite comfortable with this. The cartomizers themselves are mega cartomizers. Yes, they are big, probably twice the size of a regular cartomizer. I cannot imgine a person not getting 3-4 packs of cigarettes out of one of these things. I puffed on one for a week and it still vapes like brand new. So, if you are counting, that’s probably the equivalent of about 2 cartons of smokes you get with this kit. The price is starting to look a lot better isn’t it? Especially when you consider you also got at least $30 worth of batteries.

The other bits and bobs I mentioned that accompany this kit are the USB and mains adapters and the case. The charger stuff is pretty standard issue. The case, however, is very nice. This is one of those XL size semi-soft cases, emblazoned with the LeCig logo. This easily holds all your kit all together and then some without being too big to be pocketable. In fact I have been using this to carry stuff for couple weeks now in my jacket hand pocket. I really like it. It is also large enough that you can fit a couple extras in there as well, like a small bottle of e-juice and maybe a pigomizer or two if you are so inclined 🙂

Pigomizer

Pigomizer

LeCig also allowed me to check out one of their Pigomizers and a bottle of their e-juice as well. The Pigomizer is a nice little 1.6ml clearomizer designed to work really well with the PigCig, Just screw it on, fill it up and vape the day away! These things are designed well, they vape with no plasticy or burnt flavor, wick well and don’t leak. What more could you ask? A note here that apparently they had some of these previously that people complained leaked. Let me be perfectly clear here. I have had this one going for a couple weeks and not even a drip. I also should mention their juice. I tried their LeCig branded Cappuccino. It is 100% pg based and it is delicious albeit a bit throaty.

As I mentioned, I really liked these guys. Mike was enormously helpful and understanding with me and their product really seems durable and top notch. It would sure make a great Christmas present for you or a loved one who smokes. Go check out their product today and let them know Linc sent you!
